In Head 7, Merrill places the taxidermied trophy within a dense collage of mid-century Americana. Behind it, a clock, a fishing net, and a mounted fish; the deer head is no longer an animal but a component of a curated, wood-panelled nostalgia. The tight composition emphasises the clutter of 20th-century hobbies and "economic aspirations," where the wild is compressed into a domestic backdrop. Like her other works, the figure remains an eerie witness, its silent presence highlighting the disconnect between these sanitised memories of a suburban "home" and the underlying uncertainty of the current political climate.
