Overview
Rebecca Storm was born and raised on Vancouver Island, BC and now lives and works as a painter in Montreal, QC. She paints to understand the psyche. With consideration to forces inside and outside the self, she explores how they impact the way we catalogue memories— consciously, subconsciously, and tangibly. Often working from collaged photographic references, Storm reinterprets and distorts the iconography of nostalgia, combining traditional visual symbols, as well as offering new semiotics to decipher contemporary psychological conundrums.

This doubling suggests both balance and impermanence, drawing attention to the fleeting nature of the moment itself. The title also points toward a more existential ratio: the number of sunsets a person could potentially witness versus the limited number they will actually see in a lifetime. Through this idea, the work speaks to anxiety surrounding the passage of time and mortality. The act of observing and preserving ephemeral moments in nature becomes an attempt to resist that inevitability, to momentarily hold onto something already disappearing.
