Drawing from his lived experience as a Colombian immigrant now based in Europe, Cantor creates works that are full of tension: between clarity and ambiguity, humor and sorrow, memory and fiction. Once the Race is Over is no exception. It plays with the idea of resolution, of what remains once striving ends, suggesting exhaustion, reflection, or perhaps the absurdity of the race itself. But true to Cantor’s practice, there’s always an inside joke embedded, a knowing, private wink that the viewer is invited to sense, even if not fully decode.
