In Like Maraschino Cherries, Rebecca Storm presents a close-up face partially concealed by a vivid red cloth, drawing attention to the subject’s tear-filled eyes. The eyes appear glossy and fragile, “like maraschino cherries,” reflecting both pain and restraint. By covering the mouth and much of the face, the red fabric suggests a barrier to communication, as though emotion is being suppressed rather than spoken aloud. The concealment creates a tension between visibility and hiding, revealing a desire to protect vulnerability instead of fully expressing it. The repeated use of the red cloth, which also appears in Hindsight, reinforces themes of emotional blockage, memory, and unspoken feeling.
