In Reaper, Rebecca Storm depicts an antique mirror with a tarnished, clouded surface that resists clear reflection. Traditionally associated with vanity and self-examination, the mirror here becomes distorted, suggesting an unstable or fractured understanding of the self. The obscured reflection evokes neuroses and compulsive introspection, a repeated attempt to search for certainty or meaning that never fully resolves. The title Reaper connects this cycle to compulsion itself: the endless gathering and revisiting of information in an effort to make sense of one’s thoughts and identity. Rather than offering clarity, the mirror traps the viewer within a loop of reflection and doubt.
