Overview
Tian Teng is an artist whose work explores the psychological spaces between memory, place, and identity. Utilising her personal photo archive as a source material, she extracts photographs from their original context and re-contextualises them into new frames, creating metaphorical windows into a layered personal history. This current body of work emerged from her prior project, The Shape of Unseen, which examined the urban landscapes of the Netherlands through the lens of her upbringing in Shanghai.
Teng received her BA in Fine Arts from the University of the Arts in Utrecht, the Netherlands, and recently graduated with an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art in London. Her works have been exhibited in multiple locations, including Mondriaanhuis and Museum Rembrandthuis. She lives and works between the Netherlands and Shanghai.
