OverviewInfluenced by Jungian psychology, Anja Rausch's practice examines the shifting boundary between surface and inner imagery.Anja Rausch (1992, Aschaffenburg, Germany) lives and works in Berlin. Her artistic practice incorporates drawing and oil painting. In her delicate, luminous pieces, Rausch intuitively reproduces her visual vocabulary, which she has enriched since childhood through her personal perception of her surroundings. After eight years of painting education at a private art school in Bavaria, she studied Visual Communication at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences/Faculty of Applied Arts from 2012, where she graduated with a diploma in 2017 in the class of Prof. Dr. Sabine Zimmermann. From 2017 to 2022, Anja Rausch developed a focus on spatial installations and scenography. Since Fall 2024, she has been participating in an MFA program in Jorinde Voigt’s class at HFBK Hamburg. Anja Rausch has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Germany and internationally.Anja Rausch’s work explores the idea of opposites, viewing them not as separate but as interdependent and unified. Themes such as vulnerability and intrusion, fertility, transformation, and incarnation recur throughout her work. This exploration of polarity shapes her formal approach: her paintings evoke biological or geological processes, suggesting a primal growth that embodies both delicacy and force. Their scale reinforces this ambiguity, are we seeing microscopic cells, vast cosmic systems, energetic states, or anatomical models?

The resulting...The work DRACO introduces a psychological dimension, exploring how our perception reacts to overwhelming, attention-seeking light sources, a form of overstimulation familiar in both physical and digital realms.
The resulting motif, with its green-violet tones and sharply pointed forms, evokes a predator or dragon, reminiscent of Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. In Jungian psychology, the dragon symbolises the shadow archetype, our repressed and unconscious aspects. Confronting and integrating this shadow, much like a mythic hero’s journey, represents the challenge necessary for personal growth.BiographyEDUCATION
